Pontevedra liga prexy sacked
ROXAS CITY – Municipal liga president and ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Bayan(SB) of Pontevedra was preventively suspended for oppression, misconduct in office and abuse of authority.
Pontevedra Mayor Steve Contreras sacked Rizal Brgy. Captian Moises Dumapig effective January 7 for 30 days. Dumapig is replaced by Hipona Brgy.Captain Ferni Oquino as liga president.
The case against Dumapig stemmed from the complaint of Richard Bereber, Jr., whose son was one of the suspects who vandalized street lights at Brgy. Rizal.
Dumapig allegedly beaten Bereber of cane during the heated confrontation last year prompting the latter to secure medical certificate and charge Dumapig for less serious physical injuries.
The SB recommended to 60 days suspension to Dumapig, however, Contreras lowered it to 30 days.
Dumapig, whose sister is incumbent Vice Mayor Noeme Dumapig, now running for board member under the banner of Ugyon Kita Capiz, is supporting the same party.
Contreras said that he suspended Dumapig due to the recommendation of the council so the latter could not influence the investigation which is still on going.
On the other hand, Dumapig claimed that Contreras’ move to suspend him is politically motivated since he is supporting the mayor’s opponent.
He questioned the suspension because Provincial Liga President Clemente Firmalino was not even informed about it.
The liga president also said that only the office of the governor could suspend him and not the mayor. He added, he will not heed the suspension and will continue his function as liga president and chief executive of his barangay.
