It's Dinagyang Time!
HISTORY tells us about the image of the Infant Jesus being brought into Iloilo City, Panay Island from Cebu by the Agustinian fathers. They celebrate His coming in the Parish of San Jose, Iloilo City by a parade the city by some Aboriginal Aetas.
Thus, this has become a yearly celebration that falls on the second or third weekend of January.
This year, the festival weekend is on January 23 and 24. On January 23, the Iloilo Kasadyahan will take place, participated in by commercial groups and some festival groups as well.
The Dinagyang Ati-ati Tribes Parade and competition, of Iloilo City will happen on January 24. There will be 16 Ati tribe groups. There are four reviewing stands, (1) Freedom grandstand (2) Provincial Capitol grandstand (3) Quezon-Ledesma Reviewing grandstand and (4) Grand Hotel Iloilo reviewing grandstand.
It is not unusual to hear drums late in the night at present. These are just the tribes honing and practicing their thing in preparation for two days of revelry in the streets. If you are up to it, get out from your dwellings and see how they practice.
HALA BIRA, ILOILO! HALA BIRA! See you around!
