Mr. Palengke joins Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival
KALIBO, Aklan — Senator Mar Roxas joined thousands of devotees on festive mood dancing on the streets here to celebrate the Ati-atihan Festival last January 17, 2010.
Dubbed as Mr. Palengke, the senator from Capiz, said that he always attends the annual event honoring the Sto. Niño.
In an interview with the local media, the Capiceño senator also commented that the government should make measures to strengthen local economy so Filipinos need not anymore go abroad in order to sustain their living.
He blamed the government for allowing measures that abuse the interests of local consumers, citing his Cheaper Medicines Act as one way of mitigating such abusive economic manners.
Roxas revealed that some selfish legislators are impeding him to the extent of sending blackmails and drowning him with text brigades while on his efforts of pushing through the bill which he sought has a lot of help to medicine buyers. Mar also advised cellphone, electric and other companies whose earnings are based on metric rates to ask payment in accordance to the exact amount of material being consumed and avoid rounding off to a higher value. “Kon ano ang gamit, amo man ang sukot,” he said.
Asked if what he can say about the recent proposed bill by some legislators to make marriage renewable for 10 years, Mar replied: “Bag-o lang gani ako kasal ginpamangkot mo na amo sina? (laughs). Not all marriages work out, but hindi amo kadali nga himuon ang kasal nga amo ina .” The talk ended with Mar commending how credible his newly-married Korina is — both as a wife and a journalist. Of course, he never forgot to greet the Akeanons a “Happy Fiesta!”
