Politicians, dignitaries to witness 2010 Dinagyang festival
Candidates seeking national elective positions and foreign dignitaries are among those who confirmed their attendance in the 2010 Dinagyang Festival this coming weekend.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said his party mate Nacionalista Party standard bearer Senator Manuel Villar, vice presidential candidates Senator Mar Roxas of Liberal Party and Senator Loren Legarda, senatorial candidate Ilocos Norte Representative Bongbong Marcos and Senator Bong Revilla have confirmed their attendance to the festival.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and Mayor Sonny Belmonte will also arrive for the festival. Several other national candidates are expected to witness the festival and to get the support of Ilonggos come May 10, 2010 elections.
Earlier, the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) ruled that no politician would be allowed to make political statements in the different judging areas specifically at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand. Though, their presence would be acknowledged.
The Consul General of China to the Philippines and officials of the Asian Development Bank and Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA) are also expected to join in the yearly festival here, said Treñas.
Aside from politicians, foreign dignitaries, local and foreign tourists are also expected to arrive. It was learned that various hotels in the city are already fully-booked since the first week of this month.
