Below 10 year-old kids not allowed in fluvial procession
The safety of the devotees of Sto. Niño for the Fluvial Procession on January 22 is now given focus by the Cofradia del Sr. Sto. Niño de Cebu-Iloilo Chapter and the Philippine Coast Guard.
This concern was disclosed by Mr. Dominador Rivera, Vice-President of the Cofradia del Sr. Sto Niño de Cebu-Iloilo Chapter during the recent PIA-Cable Television program.
Rivera said that children below ten years old are not allowed and the Philippine Coast Guard will be very strict in imposing the rules and other safety measures like wearing of life jackets while traveling by sea.
The Coast Guard will supervise the boarding of participants in the motorboats and will be strict also with the boats’ capacity, Rivera said.
The devotees’ safety during the fluvial procession will be further strengthened with the fielding of roving coast guard patrol boats.
The fluvial procession is the essence of the religious facet of the Dinagyang Festival, where devotees take a pump boat ride from Fort San Pedro towards the Customs House in Muelle Loney.
Rivera advised the participants to the fluvial parade to be at the Fort San Pedro by 2:30 in the afternoon.
The pilgrim image of the Sto. Niño from Cebu is scheduled to arrive in Iloilo City on January 20 at the Iloilo Port. (PIA6/T.Villavert)
