Loren assures voters: I will not be a spare tire
Vice Presidential candidate Sen. Loren Legarda of the Nacionalista Party vowed that she will not be a mere “spare tire” once she is elected as the country’s second highest official.
Legarda, in a press conference with the Iloilo media last Sunday, said that with her capabilities she will be a useful partner of whoever will be the elected president, especially her running mate presidential candidate Sen. Manny Villar.
She also vowed the she will be a 24/7 vice president or somebody who will serve 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Legarda boasted of her achievements in her two terms as senator particularly in her advocacy on the environment, plight of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), women’s issues, children’s health and job generation.
Legarda, who was in Iloilo City along with Villar to join the Ilonggos in the celebration of the Dinagyang Festival, was accompanied by Antique Governor Sally Perez during the press conference held at Hotel Del Rio.
Asked about her edge among other vice presidential bets, Legarda said that she is the only candidate who has the capability to be in that position and that, being a woman, she is the only candidate who has the heart.
Legarda added that she, along with Villar, will really work hard to lift the condition of the poor people in the country. “Sanay kami magtrabaho dahil galing kami sa mga mahihirap na pamilya,” Legarda quiped.
“All I can offer is my competence and discipline and my work ethics,” Legarda added.
Meanwhile, the senator informed the media that she has passed a bill in the senate creating a special wing for OFWs in existing government hospitals.
She initially cited the Philippine General Hospital in Manila, the Vicente Sotto Medical Center in Cebu and one in Davao City.
Legarda said OFWs should be given importance by the government as they are considered the “new breed of heroes” in our land.
