Baciwa assures enough water even with El Niño
BACOLOD CITY — With the onslaught of El Niño phenomenon now being felt in many parts of the county, households in Bacolod City are assured of enough potable water throughout the episode.
“Discharge of water will remain the same and based on our previous experience, El Niño phenomenon has not affected the supply of water in the city,” Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) Assistant General Manager for Operations Samuel Penado said.
In an interview, he said water supply will only be affected if the phenomenon will last, say for year. But for now, water distribution will only be affected if something goes wrong with our equipment, he told PIA.
What will directly be affected is the surface water but the underground water will not be immediately affected.
Baciwa has around 36,000 concessionaires that include residential, commercial and government water connections.
Penado, though, stressed there in so reason why the people should not conserve water given the bright scenario.
“Our main concern during El Niño Phenomenon is to really conserve water and maximize its use.”
Baciwa has 40 deep wells and two cluster springs in Brgys. Alangilan and Concepcion.
Under the administration of President Gloria M. Arroyo, the water firm has availed of millions of loans to upgrade its operation and implement projects that will answer the water needs of the growing city. (PIA-LOL)
