BIR reshuffles personnel
ROXAS CITY – A total of 804 personnel of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) have been transferred to various key positions in the agency since December 2009 in a move to intensify tax collection this year.
The BIR under the leadership of Commissioner Joel L. Tan – Torres has moved 80 revenuers last 2009 and another 724 personnel this month.
The reshuffle is essential to meet the collection goal for 2010, Torres pointed out.
“The move is expected to maximize operational efficiency of field officials that will
improve performance thru high-visibility public awareness programs on taxpayer
service and enforcement campaigns of the BIR,” said a Taxpayer Information and Education Division (TIED) news release.
The article added that the reorganization will hopefully put the right people in the right places, which will help the Bureau achieve its mandate of collecting the taxes needed by our government in the service of our country and its people.
An evaluation and monitoring on the progress of all revenue officers based on key performance indicators to ensure that the achievers will be rewarded and the non-performers will be placed in less responsible assignments.
The reshuffling of BIR personnel will be complemented by other initiatives to enhance tax collection like invigorating the Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) program, integrated approach in administering the country’s large tax payers program, close monitoring of recently enacted tax-reducing measures and several incentives programs, and focus on the collection of big ticket items.
Earlier, the BIR Commissioner told Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita that the agency will do its best to meet the P830 billion target for 2010. (BIR/PIA/A.Lumaque)
