City employees told to observe waste segregation
Bacolod Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia stressed the importance of waste segregation to all employees of the city government with the issuance of Memorandum No. 20, dated January 26, 2010.
Per the mayor’s memo, all departments and offices should strictly observe the provisions of Republic Act No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2001. This is in line with the solid waste management program of the city on “No Segregation - No Collection Policy”, the provisions of which are the following:
To provide garbage receptacles in every office/department and label these with “madunot/indi madunot/residual”; instruct office utilities to practice segregation of office wastes and to dispose of garbage in proper receptacles that will be provided in the New Government Center; and to reiterate the orientation on waste segregation to employees during staff meetings.
The memo further says that members of the solid waste committee will be conducting an inspection of all offices/departments on its compliance of this policy as well as monitor its strict implementation. Non-compliance to this memorandum shall be dealt with accordingly, the memorandum says.
