Retakers cause low passing rate in nursing board, says FCC prexy
ROXAS CITY – Filamer Christian College (FCC) president clarified that the low passing rate of their school in the nursing board exam last year was caused by retaker examinees.
FCC President Expedito Señeres, said in a radio interview, that some of those who graduated nine years ago and had already taken the board exam before again took the board exam.
Señeres urged the retakers to refresh themselves in review centers for the nursing board examination next year.
He added that there is a review center at FCC but the school could not force students to take review here.
However, Señeres is proud of the FCC school of nursing for having 40% passing rate when the school started offering nursing course.
The school’s president said that they would adopt measures next school year to improve the board passing.
He said among the measures are: improvement of the existing procedures for the student’s admittance in enrolling nursing course such as the required average grade of at least 85%; nursing aptitude test before taking nursing proper and evaluate the nursing instructors which always have satisfactory performance.
Earlier, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) VI warned five nursing schools in Western Visayas of losing their “recognized status” if they will continue to perform below par in the nursing board exam.
Engr. Rex Casiple, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) VI assistant regional director, said five schools in the region got an overall rating lower than the national passing percentage of 39.73% in the recent nursing board examination.
Casiple revealed that they would send “warning” letters to Filamer Christian College in Roxas City (35.41%); Saint Gabriel College in Kalibo, Aklan (32.36%); University of Iloilo in Iloilo City (29.62%); West Negros University in Bacolod City (27.20%); and College of St. John in Roxas City (25.21).
