Cop found violating gun ban to face possible Maguindanao assignment
A policeman who will be arrested for violation of the Commission on Election (Comelec) total gun ban faces the risk of a possible deployment to Maguindanao province.
This, PNP Directorate for Integrated Police Office (DIPO) chief Director Ray Roderos is the policy of PNP chief Director General Jesus Versoza.
“Those policemen who will be arrested will be immediately relieved and placed at the regional training unit undergo some course,” Roderos said.
“Pero kung may matigas talaga ang ulo, siguro wala naman dito sa Region VI, but in other areas – ang sabi ng aming chief PNP, i-assign niya dun sa Maguindanao kung saan may massacre. Parang warning para hindi magmatigas ang ulo,” he added.
In Western Visayas, no cop was arrested for carrying their guns illegally.
However, a policeman was earlier arrested in Capiz province for illegally discharging his gun.
For the nth time, Roderos reminded policeman that under Comelec Resolution 8714, only law enforcers in proper uniform are the ones authorized by law and the Commission on Elections.
Meanwhile, in Western Visayas, there were a total of 72 violators arrested and 48 cases filed for gun ban.
Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (PPO) still top the number of arrests made with 23 persons, 22 confiscated firearms, and 15 cases filed against the violators.
Capiz PPO has 12 arrested persons; Antique PPO and Bacolod City have 8 each; Iloilo PPO and Aklan PPO have seven each; Iloilo City PO has five; and Guimaras PPO.
PNP Regional Director Chief Superintendent Isagani Cuevas said there will be no let-up in the operations on gun ban as the country comes close to May 10, 2010 national and local elections.
