Drilon defends Mabilog on political butterfly issue
Liberal Party (LP) senatorial candidate Franklin Drilon defended Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog on allegations of the latter being a political butterfly. “Allegation such as that is already expected during political season,” Drilon said.
The issue on Mabilog being a political butterfly came out after Pwersa ng Masa standard bearer former President Joseph Estrada also considered him as the party’s guest candidate.
Drilon merely downplayed the allegation as an “intrigue” adding that Mabilog could not refuse the endorsement of the other political parties.
The LP is counting on Mabilog’s help for LP presidential bet Senator Noynoy Aquino and vice presidential aspirant Senator Mar Roxas.
In a dinner tendered by the LP Friday, the Ilonggo senator also asked the party’s supporters to help Mabilog and his entire slate. He also asked that the same support be given to Mayor Jerry Treñas and Councilor Julienne Baronda.
Treñas is running under the Nacionalista Party of presidential bet Senator Manny Villar. The mayor merged forces with Mabilog though they are both supporting different candidates for vice mayor. Treñas is supporting the vice mayoral bid of Councilor Jose Espinosa III while Mabilog is supporting Baronda.
Drilon said Mabilog could achieve better with Treñas being the city’s representative in the House of Representatives. He also urged the Ilonggos to support Mabilog’s candidates for councilors.
Mabilog’s slate is a coalition of various political parties LP, PMP, LDP and Bayan Muna.
In the same gathering, Drilon announced the LP’s decisionin adopting the PMP’s candidates for councilors Atty. Joshua Alim, former Councilor Erlinda Liberriaga, Rodel Fullon Agado, Atty.Plaridel Nava and Bayan Muna’s Jory Porquia.
The Ilonggo senator’s statement expressing his confidence and loyalty to Mabilog has gladdened the LP’s mayoral candidate. “The LP’s national leadership is looking for a good leader and good person whom they could trust,” said Mabilog.
Mabilog said he has a greater chance in wining the mayoral race with the support of three different political parties. There are other candidates who want to get the support of the other political parties but failed, he said.
The LP, PMP and NP’s support will most likely enable him to win the mayoral post against Lakas-Kampi-CMD bet Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez Sr, said Mabilog.
