Groundbreaking for new city hall building today
The groundbreaking for the much delayed construction of the new city hall building is set today with Mayor Jerry Treñas in the forefront.
Treñas did not say on whether he has also invited Representative Raul Gonzalez Jr. in today’s momentous undertaking.
FF Cruz-Freyssinet would construct the seven-storey city hall building after it won the bidding in the amount of P368 million The two other construction firms that offered their bids were Asset Builders Corp. for P395.16 million while Hilmarc’s Construction Corp. tendered P382.81 million.
The city government earned P80 million savings out of the proposed budget for the construction of the city hall building. The project was bid at P455 million. The installation of air-conditioning units and other fixtures was not included in the P368 million construction works.
The city government made a loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines for P350 million. Another P100 million loan was added because of the volatile prices in the cost of construction materials.
At present, the city government is occupying portions of Robinsons Place for its several offices while offices of the legislative body are located in the second floor of the Iloilo Terminal Building. There are also city government offices which are occupying a private building.
