Cuevas cries foul over accusations of Managuit’s wife
Unfair!
This is how PNP Regional Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas over accusations hurled by Mrs. Vilma Managuit, wife of slain bomb disposal expert SPO3 Rafael Managuit.
As he debunked Mrs. Managuit’s allegations, Cuevas bared that they have extended support to them.
Fact is, the region’s top cop claimed that he personally saw that the financial assistance amounting to P100,000 be given in advance to her.
Contrary to the wife’s allegations that they did not recognize the slain cop’s effort and heroism, Cuevas said that Managuit was bestowed with a PNP Heroism Medal of Medalya ng Kadakilaan.
“We sympathized with the family. On my end, I did everything to help them on time of their bereavement,” he added.
Earlier, Mrs. Managuit expressed that she was deeply hurt as the PNP hierarchy apparently overlooked her husband’s deeds.
Her accusations stemmed from the recent 19th PNP anniversary celebration wherein no award was given to her husband.
“Apparently, we just followed a pattern of the list of award categories given by PNP National Headquarters. And no category seemed to fit what her husband did,” Cuevas clarified adding that some awards given in earlier years were already stripped off this year.
This year’s awards for individual category went to Police Chief Inspector Gilbert Gorero, Chief of Police of San Jose, Antique as national finalist in the 2009 Search for the LEAD PNP; Police Senior Inspector Lourdes Banzuelo of Iloilo City Police Office as the PNP lone awardee for the Civil Service Commission Search for the Dangal ng Banyan Award; Police Officer II Rina Salaya of Maasin Municipal Police Station as one of the Ten Outstanding Policewomen of the Philippines; and, Non-Uniformed Personnel (NUP) Nelson Cajilig as NUP of the Year.
To note, Managuit was killed after the grenade he recovered in an operation exploded at their office at the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) detachment at Robinsons Place Iloilo at de Leon St., Iloilo City last March 31, 2009.
Aside from Managuit, two other policemen were injured.
