Neophyte cop shot by girlfriend’s ‘snatchers’
A neophyte policeman was injured after he tried to fight off two men who allegedly tried to snatch his girlfriend early morning of Valentine’s Day at Delgado St., Calinog, Iloilo.
The victim was identified as PO1 Arjay Javellana, 24, of Estancia, Iloilo, and is presently assigned at the 6th Regional Public Safety Management Battalion based in Victorias City, Negros Occidenta.
Reports said that the Javellana and 19-year old Jonabella Cupay of Passi City, Iloilo were to celebrate their Valentine’s Day at Tan Casa Javellana Inland Resort when two persons suddenly grabbed Cupay.
According to Cupay, Javellana tried to take her back.
It was at this juncture that one of the suspects shot the neophyte cop who was hit on the jaw.
The suspects immediately fled on board a motorcycle parked adjacent to the resort leaving the wounded cop and the stunned Cupay.
He was rushed to Calinog District Hospital and was later transferred to West Visayas State University Medical Center in Iloilo City.
Investigation disclosed that the couple checked in at the resort 4:00 p.m. of February 13.
Later that day, they went to Passi City, as Cupay was set to perform with her band at an establishment.
They went home after the woman’s show and hired a tricycle to bring them to Calinog town.
Cupay claimed that the suspects’ motorcycle was already parked when they arrived.
Calinog PNP investigator SPO3 Nilo Campos said that Cupay believed that the suspects’ only target was her.
“But she claimed not to identify any suspects,” Campos added.
That’s why, the investigator said, it’s hard for police authorities to establish who perpetrated the crime and the motive behind it.
