PNP readies case vs Mondia slay suspects
Appropriate criminal charges will be filed against the suspects behind the killing of former Luis Mondia, Jr. next week.
This was assured by PNP Regional Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas amid calls for the immediate resolution of the case.
He added that they are building the case by getting the statements of the witnesses.
“We already identified all suspects. But we can’t still disclose their identities because we want to get the other people who are involved with the brutal killing of Luis Mondia, Jr.,” he added.
But apparently, the charges will only be slapped on the triggermen, and not on the mastermind and other possible cohorts.
By next week, Cuevas also assured that they we will give a press conference where they will disclose who are involved.
“For the moment, we are very sure who are the people who actually killed the victim,” he added assuring that they would not resort to presenting fall guys.
Cuevas asserted that they have eyewitnesses who identified the gunmen.
Last Monday, police also released the cartographic sketch of the alleged gunman who shot Mondia at Jaro, Iloilo City.
To note, Task Force Mondia was formed right after Mondia was gunned at around 6:00 p.m. of Wednesday, as he went out of the Jaro Cathedral at M. Jalandoni St., Brgy. Seminario, Jaro.
Mondia, 55, was with his wife Evelinda and 7-year old granddaughter hearing an Ash Wednesday mass.
He was about to board his Mazda pick-up when a suspect shot him thrice.
Mondia was brought to Iloilo Mission Hospital but died at around 11:10 p.m.
Meanwhile, Evelinda believed that politics was behind her husband’s death.
He claimed that intense political environment was the reason why they opted to stay in Don Francisco Village in Jaro district after the 2007 elections.
On the other hand, despite the allusion that he is considered as one of the suspects in the incident, Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Peña claimed that he has nothing to do with the incident.
