30 beneficiaries avail livelihood assistance
BACOLOD CITY — The people of Bacolod, will finally avail of the Self Employment Kaunlaran Program (SEA-K) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which was earlier initiated and facilitated by former Deputy Presidential Spokesman Dr. Anthony Golez.
DSWD has alloted 10 SEA-K groups in Bacolod City, composed of 30 members per group, totaling to 300 beneficiaries, representing 300 families, who are considered to be the poorest of the poor. Each of the recipient received yesterday P5,000 per person to start up their own business.
Golez led yesterday the giving of said cash benefits in Brgy 39 gym along with Department of Social Services Officer Sally Abelarde. The giving of this amount came after the recipients undergone a rigorous process of seminars for almost three days.
Dr. Golez requested these livelihood grants from the former DSWD Secretary Esperanza Cabral because since 2001 there were only three groups, who availed of the program in the City.
Golez supported the DSWD by hosting the three day mandatory seminar, plus the distribution of food packages per attendee, because the mandatory seminar will make each member financially unproductive for three days.
There are still nine more SEA-K groups or 270 families from the 61 barangays in the City, who will benefit from this program, in cooperation and partnership of the local government of Bacolod City led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
