DOLE opens new Kabataan ITO site in Iloilo City
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 opened on Tuesday, February 23, a new site for its Kabataan ITO project at the 2nd Level of Gaisano City Mall, La Paz, Iloilo City, in collaboration with its partners, the ACSI College, Gaisano City Mall and Globe Telecom.
The DOLE 6 engaged the services of 38 Information Technology students of ACSI to teach out-of-school youths and other disadvantaged groups in the City and Province of Iloilo knowledge and skills in basic information technology.
DOLE 6 Director Aida M. Estabillo said the opening of K-ITO corner at Gaisano City Mall would give more participants the opportunity to enroll and learn the basic computer operations through free mentoring.
ACSI College provided 10 units of computer to be used in the project, Gaisano City provided space and electricity, and Globe Telecom provided internet connection.
Estabillo said those interested to learn the basic computer operation just have to go to Gaisano City Mall and enroll in the project.
She added that walk-in clients who wish to access to government online services will also be assisted by the mentors.
The youth mentors will teach the participants an IT modules consisting of a preparatory lesson on computer hardware familiarization, computer operation and MS Word processing application, and a final lesson on the use of the Internet for search and communication. The IT sessions will be for 22 hours.
In Negros Occidental, K-ITO corners were opened to clients starting February 15. DOLE-Negros Occidental Provincial Office (NOPO) hired the services of 15 youth-mentors assigned at various K-ITO corners such in Bacolod City Public Employment Service Office (PESO), DOLE-NOPO, LGU-Sagay and LGU-Kabankalan. It is expected to hire additional mentors when new sites will start operating next month.
Other DOLE Provincial Offices in the Region are expected to open their K-ITO corners starting next month.
