Leonardia forms Task Force El Niño
BACOLOD CITY — Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday established a Bacolod City Task Force on El Niño which is tasked to conduct a periodic monitoring and data gathering on the effects of El Niño phenomenon in the area of Bacolod City and its neighboring cities.
Leonardia said that based on the monitoring data gathered by the City Department of Agriculture from the farmers, they are now experiencing the negative effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
“Should this condition persists for the next several months, it may eventually have an effect on our over-all water supply,” Leonardia said.
He said that it is high time to consider instituting mitigating measures that will enable our people to successfully deal with this condition.
Leonardia said that aside from monitoring, said task force is also tasked to study and recommend measures that can be implemented to mitigate its effects to the people of Bacolod and the environment. The Task Force will establish linkages with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) National Government line agencies through its Regional Offices, Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office for possible collaborative activities and funding assistance.
