Capiz info officers excited over upcoming PCOS demo
ROXAS CITY – The officers and members of the Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers, Inc. (CAGPIO) are upbeat on their scheduled March 4 briefing on the new procedures in the casting and counting of votes using the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine for the May 10, 2010 elections.
The Capiz – leg of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) voters education campaign kicked off last Feb. 23 and will end on March 6.
A request for the attendance of the association to the briefing on the new voting system was facilitated by the Philippine Information Agency’s (PIA) Capiz Information Center at the COMELEC Provincial Office.
“The inputs from the said activity will be utilized by the Public Information Officers in their respective information dissemination activities towards an orderly and empowered voters elections,” said PIA Capiz Officer-In-Charge Jemin Guillermo.
During the public demonstration, participants will be briefed on how to shade their ballots and feed these into the machine.
The use of the PCOS will shorten the burden of manual counting and transmission of election results from precinct level to municipal and provincial board of canvassers.
CAGPIO holds a monthly regular meeting and undertakes information activities including hinun-anon sa barangay in support to government development efforts like poll automation, Climate Change and El Niño mitigation, and social services, among others.
It is composed of Capiz – based government information officers. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
