Earth Hour 2010 campaign kicks off today
Earth Hour 2010 will be formally launched on Panay Island today, March 2, at the University of the Philippines-Visayas (UPV)here in Iloilo City.
Energy Sec. Angelo Reyes, Sr., Undersecretary Roy Kyamko and Climate Change Commissioner Naderev Sano are expected to the launching which will start at 1 p.m. at the UPV-Iloilo Campus Auditorium.
Sano, who is also the National Director of the Earth Hour Philippines, will present Earth Hour Pilipinas 2010 while Sec. Reyes will talk on Earth Hour: Mobilizing Communities into Action.
The event will be participated in by the students from the different schools in the city and representatives from the local government units, government agencies and non-government organizations.
One of the highlights of the event is the expression of the commitment from partners to support the Earth Hour 2010 which will be held on March 27 from 8:30 to 9:30 pm.
Earth Hour is a global event organized by World Wide Fund that involves the voluntarily turning-off of non-essential lights for an hour to heighten awareness about the effects of climate change.
The Department of Energy, along with partner agencies such as the Green Army and the SWITCH Movement, are spearheading the event in the country. (PIA)
