Mondia’s killers get paid P1 million for the job?
Is former Pulupandan Mayor Luis Mondia, Jr. worth P1 million?
Reports have been coming out that at least P1 million was paid for the killers of Mondia.
As initial payment, the suspects allegedly have been given P100,000 each.
“We don’t have concrete information on that. But according to one of those who participated in, there was report of an advance of P100,000 each. It’s a very raw information. We don’t know where it came from but there was money going around,” said PNP Regional Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas.
“That’s why, I instructed our policemen to continue the conduct of investigation but this should not preclude us from filing the case against the suspects,” he added.
Yesterday, Cuevas revealed that at least six persons will be criminally charged for the killing of Mondia.
The region’s top cop also assured that they already have eyewitnesses to the crime.
Of the six persons, two were identified while the four will just be named as John Does.
“The identified suspects are the triggermen – the one who shot former Mayor Mondia and the gunman’s buddy – and the four unidentified suspects served as their lookouts,” he claimed.
The lookouts were allegedly just at the vicinity of the church during the incident.
“In fact, one of the suspects collided with one of the witnesses when they fled from the crime scene,” Cuevas said.
Since Mondia was laid to rest Sunday, investigators are giving ample time for Evelinda, Mondia’s wife, and their seven-year old granddaughter to give their statements before the filing of case.
“We are on the first phase of the case – the filing of charges against the triggermen and the lookouts. The second phase would be to determine the mastermind in the killing,” Cuevas said.
For now, he added that they have no direct evidence and witnesses to name the brains behind the Mondia slay.
“We hope that once the case is filed, we could secure a warrant of arrest against the suspects so that we could pursue if they could make testimonies on who hired them,” Cuevas added.
Meanwhile, Cuevas said that they already tracked the whereabouts of some of the suspects.
“Nakatutok ang tracker teams where they are. I think there are four na tracked na,” he said adding, “but we could not say that they could not flee. We could not hold them for now. “
To note, Task Force Mondia was formed right after Mondia was gunned two weeks ago as he went out of the Jaro Cathedral at M. Jalandoni St., Brgy. Seminario, Jaro.
Mondia, 55, was with his wife Evelinda and 7-year old granddaughter hearing an Ash Wednesday mass.
He was about to board his Mazda pick-up when a suspect shot him thrice.
Mondia was brought to Iloilo Mission Hospital but died at around 11:10 p.m.
Meanwhile, Evelinda believed that politics was behind her husband’s death.
He claimed that intense political environment was the reason why they opted to stay in Don Francisco Village in Jaro district after the 2007 elections.
