One vote has power (5)
(A series of thoughts and perspectives about the May 10, 2010 national and local elections)
As the nation moves closer to the May 10, 2010 national and local elections, there seems also a growing intensity in everything around us. Mudslinging. Violence. Uncertainties.
But, in essence, there is nothing new in all events and incidents which are unfolding before us. Everything is just history in its repetitive course. It is a déjà vu experience!
So nothing actually is surprising to what we see and hear. This is just an ordinary election season, a time to hear the same old song and watch the same old drama. In short, this season is simply a bore!!!
But this reality must not cause us to be apathetic. Indifferent. Inactive.
If election season becomes a vicious cycle of promises, graft and corruption, and betrayal of public trust, there is indeed a big reason for us to put this cycle an end. It is therefore urgent that we give our call for change a stronger voice.
The upcoming election maybe will not make a difference. Maybe it will just be same scenario as we had in previous years. Maybe it is just a regular exercise, an exercise in futility, in this democratic country.
No doubt to that contention. It will be so if we let history repeats itself without us making a move. Not lifting a finger. Not making a voice. It will be so if we simply become bystanders as this season passes us by.
Hence, the message is simple: It is time to make a move. Lift a finger. Make our voices be heard.
And the mission is simple: We have to cast our vote! My vote, your vote, each of our votes can break the vicious cycle and change the course of the season.
Well, maybe the May 10, 2010 national and local elections will not put an end to the sufferings of our nations. But one thing is certain. If we make an informed choice, cast our votes for the candidates of our best interests, and help guard our votes, the upcoming elections can be a beginning to end the ills of our beloved Philippines .
Yes! It is possible. Our one, solitary vote will make it possible!
