Vote for God-fearing candidates
The Philippines is the only Christian country in Asia. People from other parts of the world think that Filipinos are honest, trustworthy, and God-fearing. But it is sad to say that it is opposite. The Philippines has been reportedly tagged as the No. 2 most corrupt nation in Asia, second only to Indonesia.
In ancient times, Malaysian and Chinese traders considered the Filipino traders as honest and trusted. The foreign traders left their goods and mechandise to the Filipino traders during a business meeting. A year later, the Chinese and Malaysian merchants came back and found the Filipinos ready to pay the merchandise they owned to the foreign merchants.
About 95 percent of the members of Congress are Christians including government officials and employees. However, graft and corruption is unstoppable among our so-called country leaders, from barangay up to the presidency. The Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil. Money per se is not evil; but how corrupt politicians and officials amassed millions in an evil way is abominable to God.
What is the difference between Christian and God-fearing people? A politician may go to church daily and yet he commits wicked deeds outside the church. A God-fearing person is one who is afraid of God at all times. When he is about to receive “blood” money from government projects, he sees God and is convicted and does not pursue his evil desire. When he is given thousands of money to disburse, he is aware that God is with him and account the money up to the last centavo. When there is kickback given him from illegal government transactions, he is convicted and aware always that the Almighty God is looking at him. He lives a simple life, does not gamble, engage in womanizing, and commit other wicked ways. He is not like a priest or bishop but an ordinary human being who is aware of the presence of God in his day-to-day life.
If during the May 10 balloting we can find a God-fearing candidate running for office, let’s choose him. Wicked candidates may eventually lose the election and God-fearing candidates are elected, then we shall thank God Almighty that our leaders are God-fearing and our country will be lifted up to untold prosperity. The Philippines treasury is literally bankrupt and corrupt officials have many banks to store their ill-gotten wealth.
We still have honest trustworthy government officials, employees and lawmakers. We salute them for maintaining their integrity despite the temptation of money. These are but few men and women in the government. The Bible says that narrow is pathway going to heaven, but wide is the way going to hell. Christ Jesus said in 7:13, “Enter ye in at the staight gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction and many there be which go thereat.” Luke 13: “Strive to enter in at the straight gate, for many I say unto you will seek to enter in and shall not be able.” Proverbs 12:28, “In the way of righteous is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.”
Dishonest politicians should ponder on what Jesus Christ said on the above verses of the Holy Scripture. God’s people should pray that God-fearing candidates should govern our nation.
