ROXAS CITY – Police of this town are still looking for many angles such as political, personal and retaliation as the motive in the murder of supporter and runner of Dumarao Mayoral candidate Victor Tanco, Jr. at their house last Sunday night in Poblacion, Ilaya, Dumarao, Capiz.
Police said that the victim has a pending case of attempted homicide after he shot his neighbor several years back. Police added that the victim, being head of barangay tanod or CVO, could have earned the ire of those he has apprehended and he is also a runner and supporter of mayoral candidate Tanco, Jr.
SO1 Onato, police investigator of Dumarao police station, said that victim Ruben Dorado suffered of broken head while his wife Merlita also sustained head injury inflicted by 12-gauge shot gun. She was rushed at the nearby hospital for medical treatment and is now declared out of danger by physician.
Based on the investigation conducted by Dumarao police, Onato said that the incident took place at around 11:30 p.m. on March 14 at the said place where the victim was sleeping together with wife and child.
He said the suspect shot the victim at close range through the hole of the wall considering that the house of the victim is made of light materials.
Recovered from the scene of incident were two empty shells of 12-gauge shot gun.
Meanwhile, the victim’s wife revealed that her husband had been receiving death threats before the incident happened.
Earlier, incumbent Dumarao Mayor Leslie Warren “Beboy” Benjamen, through Sangguniang Bayan (SB) resolution, dismantled the 47 infantry battalion (IB) to avoid the soldiers to become part of partisan politics in Dumarao.
Benjamen also accused soldiers to be very close to his opponent Tanco, Jr., his 3rd cousin thus the 47 IB detachment was pulled-out.
On the other hand, Guv. Tanco accused Benjamen of having pulled-out the soldiers’ detachment in Dumarao since he (Benjamen) has goons. Benjamen strongly denied he has goons.
