Revenue office urges public support on tax drive
ROXAS CITY – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has called on the public to help in the tax drive of the government.
According to BIR Regional Director Lawyer Glen Geraldino the public must also know that they have a responsibility by filing appropriate taxes due to the government.
Geraldino reminded taxpayers to file their income tax return on or before April 15 to avoid penalties and surcharges.
He added for the convenience of the taxpayers, the BIR has also initiated the “no noon break” policy as well as the establishment of the Tulungan Centers or help desks in malls.
Geraldino was here in Roxas City last March 3 to lead the kick off activity of the tax campaign of the Revenue District Office No. 72 in this city and entire province of Capiz.
He explained that with the help of the public in the government’s tax collection efforts, more revenues will be collected, thus more programs and services will be delivered.
Revenues derived by the government are being used for the country’s infrastructure and human development programs as well as delivery of basic health and social services.
Recently, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo insisted that she has no regrets in implementing the Expanded Value Added Tax (EVAT), no matter how unpopular it is.
The President said that because of the EVAT, more than 85 percent or 70 million of the country’s population, particularly the indigent families in far-flung communities, are already covered by health insurance. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
