Women of Today: From Building Happy Homes to Building Societies
BACOLOD CITY — Women used to be the main fixed figure attending to the kitchen affairs of their homes and stay in the house for chronic pregnancy, today; modern times have brought them to their rightful place taking lead in almost all range of human endeavor.
Bago City Information Officer and women leader Cleovel Villanueva said the women have come a long way from taking a closet role to occupying the highest positions in the present society that men used to dominate and producing results equal to what men can achieve and sometimes, even better.
Speaking over DYKB in the PIA’s program “Tuhuy sa Imo,” Villanueva stressed the importance of educating the women on their rights especially on the Magna Carta for women that was signed by President Gloria M. Arroyo last year.
She said the Provincial Council for Women, PCW, in Negros Occ., in which she is an official, is active in carrying out the mission of informing the women of their important role in nation building in the same way they have built their homes.
She noted that among OFWs where the mother is working abroad, many domestic problems arise ranging from moral to financial issues to other serious problems such as drugs and truancy.
This has prompted Bago City and the PCW to strengthen their counseling services to serve the families of OFWs.
The PCW is also working on empowering the women by providing them employment and other sources of livelihood to uplift their family economically as well as raise their morale.
She said Filipino women should look up to great achievers like Leah, Salonga, Cory Aquino, President Gloria M. Arroyo and others who, through sheer dedication and determination, have achieved extra-ordinary feats worthy of emulation.
Villanueva, herself, is a multi-warded Information Officer of Bago City and have received citations from the Philippine Information Agency for her involvement in the information activities for many years now.
She is considered among the outstanding pioneers of the formerly National Association of Government Information Officers league, NAGIOL, now Negros Association of Government Information Officers and Liaisons. (PIA-LOL)
