Diaz: No power crisis in Capiz due to El Niño
ROXAS CITY – Panay island and the rest of Visayas to include Capiz province and this city will not experience power shortage as what Mindanao is currently suffering due to El Niño phenomenon.
Engr. Edgar Diaz, general manager of the Capiz Electric Cooperative, Inc (Capelco) told The News Today (TNT) that the dry spell will not affect power plants in Leyte, Cebu and Negros as they are geothermal and thermal power plants.
However, Diaz said that brownout will only occur when power plants encounter troubles or undergo Preventive Maintenance System (PMS).
He said that brownout caused by trouble on power plants are usually unannounced while in case of PMS they would be sending proper notices to the member-consumers.
He said that Mindanao incurred a power crisis and is suffering from rotating brownouts due power shortage brought by El Niño phenomenon since its power plants mostly run by flow of water.
Meanwhile, the Capelco general manager also revealed that 2 generators in Panitan augmented the power supply during the power shortage last month due to trouble of power plants.
The two generators has 5.5 of 11 megawatts which can supply power of one third consumption of Roxas City.
