Treñas wants better police performance
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas expects the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to perform their duties with the assumption of Sr. Supt. Eugenio Espejo as the OIC city police director.
Treñas said he wants Sr. Supt. Espejo to conduct massive checkpoints and intensify the gathering of intelligence reports.
The city police should assure the safety of Ilonggos especially during this political season. The holding of command conference is also a must for the police to discuss and monitor the peace and order in the city.
Espejo replaced Sr. Supt. Melvin Mongcal after the mayor personally sought his relief due to poor performance.
The conduct of checkpoints in entry and exit points in the city is one of the police operational plans to confiscate firearms as the Comelec-imposed gun ban is in effect. The police however are strictly mandated to observe the plain view policy.
The mayor wants the police to intensify their intelligence gathering by utilizing all their assets to prevent any untoward incident which could endanger the lives and properties of the people.
Incident like the grenade throwing at the Treñas family owned Carlos Bakeshop and Café could have been avoided if the police intelligence is working.
Treñas said he is waiting for update on the case from the police case-tracker team headed by Chief Inspector Orly Gabinete, chief of police of the Jaro police station.
Meanwhile, Treñas is hoping that all the candidates who signed the peace covenant will adhere to the purpose and goal embodied in the covenant. The mayor also signed the peace covenant.
