Village dad goes scot-free after firing his gun inside police detachment
Several members of the Jaro Police Station are now facing probe after they allegedly did not arrest a barangay captain who indiscriminately fired his gun Tuesday morning inside a barangay hall cum police detachment.
Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) officer-in-charge Supt. Eugenio Espejo said that he ordered for an investigation for a possible lapses against Jaro PNP deputy chief Insp. Gervinson Muyo.
Espejo said that the cops could have run after Brgy. Capt. Bienvenido Lagos of Montinola, Jaro, in a hot pursuit operation but the cops simply did not arrest him.
Reports said that Lagos was allegedly with his wife inside the barangay hall when the village chief fired his gun.
Tanod commander Ernesto Dagumampan said that he went to the barangay hall and he asked a policeman about Lagos.
“Hambal ka pulis, diri si Kap sa sulod,” Dagumampan was quoted to have said.
When asked what could have triggered Lagos to have fired his gun, the tanod commander assumed that it could have been because of jealousy but did not elaborate further.
“Imon-imon ah. Upod man sila (with his wife). Medyo nakainom siya (Lagos) gamay,” Dagumampan added.
After the incident, Lagos allegedly boarded a taxi and went home.
More than the alarm and scandal it caused, Lagos could be liable for violation of the Resolution 8714 or the total gun ban.
Espejo said that Lagos has a licensed gun.
“We have yet to check if he has a gun ban exemption,” he added.
The ICPO chief said that they would also submit the slug recovered at the scene of incident for a ballistic test.
Meanwhile, policemen assigned at the Jaro police detachment claimed that they were not on the area when the incident happened.
“They reasoned out that they responded to a fight between two fraternity groups. But still, they should have not left the detachment with no policeman on duty,” Espejo said.
