Proposed activities for Earth Hour 2010 bared
Earth Hour 2010 Core Group has lined-up activities to mark the Earth Hour on March 27.
Earth Hour Core Group leader Engr. Felicidad Altalaguire, Ph. D. said an exhibit will be held as a prelude to the main event on March 27, at the SM City Bacolod.
The activity will be participated in by schools in Bacolod and outside of the city, San Carlos Bioenergy, Inc., EDC, Central Bank, the Department of Energy, NGOs, NGAs and the church, he told PIA in an interview.
Opening of the exhibit will be on March 22 5:30 and will be followed by a press conference.
On March 27, there will be a coastal clean-up in the morning to be spearheaded by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers or PICE.
At 5:00 pm on the same day, the group will conduct a caravan that will start from the Capital Lagoon moving around the main streets of the city and converge at the North Car park section of SM City Bacolod where a program will be held for an hour.
Before the ceremonial switch-off in the evening, lectures will be delivered on environmental topics led by the DOE.
The core group has requested for the church to ring its church bells five minutes before 8:30 to signal the switch-off of lights and also five minutes before the switch-on of lights at 9:30am.
Critical areas that consume huge power and other key areas in the province will be properly documented.
Local power firms were requested to take note of power consumption before and after the switch-off to measure the impact of the event.
While lights are off, from 8:30-9:30pm, participants will use candles to light up the venue while the program is being held. (PIA-LOL)
