Mayor Leonardia urges city employees to join Earth Hour
BACOLOD CITY — The city of Bacolod is now ready for the Earth Hour 2010 with no less than Mayor Evelio Leonardia issuing a memorandum for government employees to join in the switching-off of lights on March 27 from 8:30 to 9:30 PM.
Memorandum 54 urges Bacolod City government employees to take part in the worldwide event that have inspired millions to express concern for climate change and other environmental issues.
According to the mayor the observance aims to empower individuals to commit to the challenge of solving the climate change crisis and hopes to send a strong message to world leaders to effect positive change
Switching off lights for one hour, saves on energy and helps protect the earth’s ozone layer, he added.
Meanwhile, SM City Bacolod Public Relations Officer Lorena Quizan-Martinez said cities and towns all over the world will switch off
their lights, Saturday, for one hour, sending an even stronger message to take action on global warming.
The ceremonial countdown to switch off the lights at 8:30 PM will be held at the North Carpark 2 of SM City Bacolod.
Martinez said the activity aims to “send the message that we, the citizens of the world, demand commitment to actions that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the benefit of the planet. 2010 is the ultimate year for humanity to address such pressing concerns.” (PIA-LOL)
