Sotto wants special courts for illegal drug traders
ROXAS CITY – Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) senatorial candidate Vicente “Tito” Sotto said that he will push for special courts for illegal drugs traders to reduce the backlog on illegal drugs cases once get elected again as senator.
According to him, illegal drug cases which are pending in court reached some 1,500 nationwide in which Capiz alone has pending 158 cases.
“Illegal drug dealers enjoy the delay of their cases in court thus proliferation of illegal drugs is still unabated,” Sotto said.
He added that he will pass a law to make special courts to maximize the efforts of judges for resolution of illegal drugs cases.
The former senator also said that he will strengthen the illegal drug watch council against the proliferation of the prohibited drugs.
Sotto was here yesterday for sorties where he was welcomed by Ugyon Kita Capiz (UKC) with City Mayor Vicente Bermejo and allies particularly City Councilor Monchit Albar and businessman Ike Altavas whose family are friends of Sotto.
UKC is chaired by 2nd District Cong. Fredenil Castro and former Agriculture Usec Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante as vice chair.
Sotto, who is running under the banner of NPC of business tycoon Danding Cojuangco, said he is adopted by UKC in the local election.
“The NPC decided to be neutral when it comes to support the president but we support the vice presidential bid of Senator Loren Legarda,” Sotto said.
Sotto, who is a former movie actor, had been elected as senator from 1992 – 2004 and is proud to author 103 laws.
He said that he authored laws against illegal drugs, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), emplower local government units (LGUs) to declare state of calamity and several others.
Tagged as ‘Senador ng pamilyang Pilipino’ Sotto said he got that trademark because he authored laws for family.
After his sorties in Capiz, Sotto will proceed to Iloilo province and other parts of Panay Island.
