109th Semana sang Iloilo kicks off today
A weeklong celebration of the 109th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Iloilo starts today, April 5, 2010.
The celebration, with this year’s theme “Province of Iloilo: Towards spiritual awareness and tourism driven governance,” opens with a Thanksgiving Mass at 8:00 a.m. and to be followed by the Pasundayag sang Kabanwahanan, the showcase of Ilonggo tradition and culture through dances.
Participants of the Pasundayag are Tribu Bola-Bola of the Iloilo National High School; three district hospitals of the Iloilo Provincial Government such as Sara District Hospital, Dumangas District Hospital and Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital; Samba of the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University; Tribu Patubas of the Municipality of Barotac Viejo; and Tribu Kasag of the Municipality of Banate.
Also part of the event will be the Induction of the Iloilo Provincial Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative by Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr. and the Songs and Dances presentation of the Drop-in Center Children.
A Dog Show and mass vaccination will be conducted at 2:00 in the afternoon of the same day.
Other activities lined up for the week includes Disaster Preparedness, Cooperative Forum, Employees’ Health Day, Inauguration of Buenavista Dam in Dingles and Cine Ilonggo: Ilonggo Film Festival, all on April 6, 2010.
On the 3rd day, April 7, 2010, a Jobs Fair will be conducted at the Gaisano City Capital Mall at 7:00 a,m. and an Agriculture Achievers Awarding Ceremony at 1.00 p.m. at the Capitol Conference Room.
On April 8, 2010 will be the Employees Day. A fun walk will be conducted at 6:30 a.m. which will start from the Iloilo Capitol Grounds to the Iloilo Sports Complex. A dance exercises will follow. On the same day, a Food Festival will open.
The Hospital Awards and Recognition Program (HARP) awarding ceremony will be done on April 9th at 9:00 am. The outstanding district hospitals will be recognized and awarded.
The screening of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines for Western Visayas will be conducted on April 10, 2010 at the Capitol Conference Room.
The highlight of the celebration will be the Testimonial Dinner and Awarding Ceremonies for the outgoing local officials of the Iloilo Provincial Government, Tourism Driven Municipalities, Iskolar ng Bayan and the Hall of Famer Child-Friendly Municipality on April 11th at 6:00 p.m.
On the other hand, the officials of the National Historical Institute (NHI) will be coming over on April 11, 2010 for the unveiling ceremony of the historical marker for the old Capitol building at 8:00 a.m. (ICE/Capitol News)
