NPA squad leader yields
ROXAS CITY – A squad leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered last week to Capiz Governor Victor Tanco, Sr. at the governor’s mansion at Esla, Lanot this city.
Romy Diaz, a.k.a. Ka Romy and a.k.a Matthew, 24 of Brgy. Puri, Tapaz, Capiz said he decided to return to the fold of the law because he can no longer bear the hardship in the mountain.
Ka Romy, a member of Central Front Committee, said that he was under Ka Mayo and Ka Tonio operating on Panay Island.
Interviewed by the local media, Ka Romy said that he entered the rebel organization at the age of 16 years old and he undergone a training in Bacolod City. He also said that as a squad leader, he has eight companions under him.
He said that was easily convinced to enter the organization since he is an illiterate adding that he decided to surrender because of the government’s call for rebels to back to the fold of the law.
Ka Romy was accompanied by barangay officials in Tapaz who facilitated his surrender and it was attended by Sr. Supt. Josephus Angan, director of the Capiz Provincial Police Office (CPP0).
