More than 278,000 Bacoleños avail City Health Office services
At least 278,040 Bacoleños were able to benefit last year from the services provided by the City Health Office. This number of beneficiaries excluded those who were able to benefit from outreach medical and dental missions that were conducted in partnership with various civic organizations.
Majority of these beneficiaries numbering to over 146,098 were those who availed of the city government’s various programs on health and sanitation. At least 40,807 availed of laboratory services while 20,630 mothers and mothers-to-be availed of maternity, nutrition and family planning services.
Other beneficiaries who availed of the services of the City Health Office were people who required immediate medical treatment, disease control and surveillance, people who needed mental health services, pre-marital counseling, medico-legal services, social hygiene services, x-ray services, tuberculosis medication and treatment, rabies and leprosy treatment.
The city government also sponsored PhilHealth cards, through its “Medicare para sa Masa” program, for at least 10,000 beneficiaries. Several essential medicines were given free like TB medicines, tetanus toxoids, BCG, DPT, Hepa B and OPV vaccines from the Department of Health.
The voluntary blood donation program of the city government also proved to be beneficial and successful as it earned for the city, in 2008 and 2009, the Sandugo Outstanding Local Government Executive Award.
Aside from the regular health programs, the City Health Office took special interest in the upsurge of dengue cases and the control and prevention of the AH1N1 influenza virus.
The city government also acquired P676,000 worth of medical equipment to further improve the services of the City Health Office and is now in the process of constructing the Bacolod Eye Center and the 30-bed lying-in and birthing center that was built in partnership with the Riverside Medical Center.
