Cuevas stays as WV police chief
With more than two months to go before he bids goodbye to the police service, Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas will definitely hold on to his post as Police Regional Office (PRO) director.
Cuevas said this amidst reports that he was already placed on “non-duty status,” along with 7 other police generals.
Cuevas cited that the memorandum from the PNP national headquarters states that, “regional directors and directors of National Support Units (NSUs) shall replace commanders/chiefs of police who retirable from April 15 to June 30 so that they could concentrate on their preparations for retirement.”
Further, “regional directors and directors of national support units are advised to apply for non-duty status at the Directorate for personnel at the National Headquarters, Camp Crame.”
Cuevas will reach his compulsory age of retirement on June 27.
“This is not compulsory for regional directors and directors of NSUs,” he claimed.
As such, Cuevas stated that he will retire on June 27 because they were given that option.
“I respectfully won’t apply,” he said.
Earlier, PNPchief Director General Jesus Verzosa reportedly placed 8 ranking police officials on “non-duty status” as part of the police’s effort to assure clean and peaceful elections in May 10.
Aside from Cuevas, the 7 other officials were Chief Supt. Elmo San Diego, director of the Quezon City Police District; Director Felizardo Serapio, head of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Eastern Mindanao; Chief Supt. Roberto Damian, Cagayan Valley regional police director; Chief Supt. Danilo Empedrad, Northern Mindanao regional police director; Chief Supt. Danilo Gaoiran, chief of the Security Agencies and Guards Supervision; Chief Supt. Juan Luna, director of the Finance Service; and
Chief Supt. Constante Azares Jr., Ilocos-Pangasinan regional police director.
The report said that the police officials’ mandatory retirement dates fall between April 15 and June 30.
