City’s PESO assists 40,668 Bacoleños
The Bacolod City Government, through the Public Employment Service Office, has assisted last year over 40,668 people who were in need of jobs.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that it has been a thrust of the city government to generate employment for the Bacoleños and at the same time, help them find suitable employment.
At least 10,795 applicants for local jobs were referred to various establishments and 6,749 of them successfully found employment locally while of the 9,841 who sought jobs abroad, 4,398 are now working in various parts of the world. At least 11 job fairs were also held where 13,229 job seekers participated.
Leonardia also said that of the 19,281 applicants who registered for self employment, the PESO was able to help 14,675 of these people who are now engaged in productive self employment activities such as opening of sari-sari stores, operating pedicabs, and engaging in other vending activities with financial assistance extended by the Department of Labor and Employment. The PESO also conducted livelihood and skills training to about 751 individuals.
The mayor noted that these activities that were geared towards employment generation have earned for the Bacolod PESO the Top Regional Performer award for Western Visayas and finalist in the national award.
