BIR urges taxpayers to beat April 15 deadline
With only two days to go, the Bureau of Internal Revenue is urging taxpayers to beat the April 15 income tax payment deadline.
To cater to the convenience of the taxpaying public, BIR has set up tax tulungan centers in accredited banks and malls in Bacolod City.
Last Saturday, April 10, the bureau as well as accredited banks also opened its doors to the public in anticipation of the rush of taxpayers to transact business by that time.
BIR has also conducted massive information campaign on the April 15 deadline by mounting tarpaulins in strategic commercial establishments reminding taxpayers to avoid the rush by filing their income tax returns before the set deadline.
In a letter to taxpayers printed, BIR Commissioner Joel Tan-Torres urged the taxpayers to avail of the different services offered by BIR to make tax compliance easier for the taxpayers.
Torres, in the letter told taxpayers to call its contact center at 981-8888 for accessible information, or check its website at www.bir.gov.ph, call or visit the revenue district offices and tax assistance centers in major malls. Those who are qualified to comply via electronic filing payment may also use this method.
BIR Regional Director Araceli L. Francisco is enjoining taxpayers in Negros Occidental to avoid the rush and beat the deadline on April 15 in paying the correct taxes in all its accredited banks. In these banks, BIR has set up Tax Tulungan Center or table manned by BIR personnel.
After the deadline, the BIR will be beefing up enforcement of its various programs like Run After Tax Evaders, Oplan Kandado, Compliance Check Surveillance, Inventory Stock Taking and Tax Mapping. (PIA/EAD)
