DOH: Nominate a health champion
BACOLOD CITY — As part of the 1000 cities and 1000 lives campaign of the World Health Organization which was highlighted during the World Health Day 2010 celebration, the Department of Health pushes for the nomination of health champions.
A health champion according to the definition of the WHO is someone who is making a difference to improve health in a community, someone who has successfully lobbied for policy change, or has brought health services to the community. It can also be someone from the transport or urban planning sector that has improved the living environment, or increased awareness in order to enhance health.
The goal of the campaign is to gather and promote at least 1000 stories. A Global Forum on Urban Health- a high profile event which will be held at Kobe, Japan in November 2010 will showcase these champions.
An individual can nominate self or others by submitting a 4-minute video (or shorter) to www.youtube.com/whd2010.
The videos and photos will be posted online and online users are encouraged to rate them and then based on a combination of number of views and ratings, videos will be short-listed for consideration by a panel to select an urban health champion.
Deadline of submission of the nominations will be on September 15 in order to make it for the panel evaluation to make it for the November event. (PIA/EAD)
