DAR-Capiz opens 20 new scholarship slots
ROXAS CITY – Twenty new scholarship slots for the President Diosdado Macapagal Agrarian Scholarship Program (PDMASP) have been allotted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for the province for the school year 2010 – 2011.
The number forms part of the 140 available slots for Western Visayas which were broken down in the provinces based on the number of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) percentile share as of Dec. 31, 2009. A total of 1,500 slots are available nationwide.
DAR – Capiz Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer II Regina L. Caspillo has informed all Municipal Agrarian Reform Officers in the province to submit the names of probable scholars for interview.
PDMASP, now Programang Agrario Iskolar, is a special project of DAR designed to provide qualified dependents of the beneficiaries of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) an opportunity to study an agiculture-related four-year college degree at State Universities and Colleges with financial support.
The beneficiaries will undergo a competitive screening system and are entitled to tuition fee assistance, monthly stipend and book allowance.
PDMASP Coordinator for Capiz Mary Grace Deocampo said that the province has maintained 10 PDMASP scholars as of the second semester of the previous school year.
Since 2003 to date, DAR – Capiz has already produced 28 graduates through PDMASP who have finished various courses such as Bachelor of Science in Food Technology, Agriculture, Economics, Agricultural Technology and Agricultural Engineering.
All the graduates were enrolled in the different Capiz State University (CAPSU) campuses in the province.
“Five of the PDMASP grantees in Capiz graduated as cum laude,” said DAR – Capiz Public Information Officer Carlette Caldeo – Pretta in a news release.
They were Connie Mae Velado of Jamindan, Capiz, BS Agriculture; Winelyn M. Laging of Sapi-an, Capiz and Reem Berondo of Mambusao, Capiz, BS Agricultural Engineering; Fanilyn Fernandez of Panit-an, Capiz, BS Agricultural Technology; and Rosemarie Obien of Sigma, Capiz, BS Food Technology.
The scholarship project is part of DAR Secretary Nasser Pangandaman’s commitment to the ARBs. (DAR-Capiz/PIA/A.Lumaque)
