Jamora mulls DQ raps vs Mabilog
Larry Jamora, now the leading candidate for mayor of Iloilo City, is mulling the filing of disqualification (DQ) raps against opponent Jed Mabilog in the wake of an incident resulting in the forcible arrest of the Tanod Commander of Bgy. Magsaysay, Lapaz.
Last Tuesday evening, a reported bodyguard of Jed Mabilog, caused the arrest of Tanod Commander Danny Tiope for allegedly removing the posters of Mabilog in the Tanod Outpost of Lapaz. Mabilog, who was reportedly present when the arrest was made, told media yesterday he will file charges against the Tanod commander for violation of the (sic) “Election Fair Act.”
However, Punong Barangay Rafael Palmares Jr., said the arrest was illegal. He pointed out that the Tanod Outpost was a temporary structure standing on private property belonging to the Jamora family. At the same time, he also stressed that it was not a Comelec-designated common poster area, hence the poster itself was a violation.
Palmares said the arrest made by Mabilog’s men smacks of “abuse of authority and arrogance in power.” Even the police may be liable of improper procedure since “they did not notify me, as Barangay Captain, before bringing the Tanod Commander to the police precinct.”
“This is a sign of desperation in the Mabilog camp since their candidate is already lagging behind Jamora,” said Palmares.
In an interview over Bombo Radyo yesterday morning, Jamora said he will refer the matter to his legal team to look into Mabilog’s culpability and the possible filing of disqualification charges with the Comelec. (Willy Sotto)
