Lingga-anay 2010 in Panay slated May 1-4
PANAY, Capiz – This town will celebrate municipal and religious fiesta on May 1 – 4, 2010.
Mayor Dante Bermejo said, in a press conference held yesterday at the town hall, that the fiesta dubbed as Lingga-anay 2010 is the symbol of tradition which will be celebrated peacefully although it is election season.
The four-day affair schedule of activities lined up are as follows: mass, parade, opening of Lingga-anay 2010, LGU night, Music and Food Festival, Civac/Medical/Dental, Little Miss Panay, Battle of the Band, SK Activities, Coronation of Fiesta Queen, Show down of Escotis, Firework Display and Pasikat 2010.
With the theme: “Duna kag pinanubli nga manggad… ganhaan sa pag-umwad”, this year’s Fiesta Queen is Miss Maria Leah Bercadez Deslate, the younger sister of Councilor Maria Leobeth D. Delicana.
Since the onset of Mayor Bermejo’s administration in 2007, for three consecutive years, the town consistently bagged the award for the cleanest and greenest (Category A) of GPK in the province of Capiz. This elevated the town to the ranks of GPK of hall of famers such as Sapian and Dumarao.
Panay was also awarded as the best performing town (3rd class category) in the province by the Excell Award 2009 with emphasis on Excellence in Administrative Governance, Social Services, and Environmental Management. The town was also adjudged as first place for provincial search for the cleanest and greenest highway and 2nd place in environmental management in Western Visayas.
The Panay town has the biggest bell in the whole Asia thus the name of festival is Lingga-anay.
The historic town of Panay has recently been declared as “The Heritage Capital of Capiz, Philippines” by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the Province of Capiz.
According to Bermejo, innovation of the said fiesta every year is being implemented by the executive committee.
The Panay mayor also assured peace and order will be maintained as the police and tanods will conduct police visibility and check points.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Gualberto Bernas III, M.D. said that medical and dental services will also be rendered as he believed as the health of the constituents in the most important.
The press conference was also attended by chair of different committees, councilors and municipal employees, and local media, among others.
