Commotion mars Treñas’ group caucus
Another political caucus in Iloilo City did not push through after a commotion between two barangay officials preceded the event.
The incident prompted Brgy. Kagawad Corazon Coo of Sinikway, Lapuz, La Paz , Iloilo City to call for police assistance complaining their own village chief for causing alarm in the area.
Coo claimed that they were about to start the caucus of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, who is now running for congressman against re-electionist Cong. Raul Gonzalez, Jr., when Brgy. Capt. Felix Ventura arrived.
On top of his voice, Ventura allegedly uttered: “Inaway ta da. Sin-o maisog?!”
Some witnesses claimed to have seen Ventura , a retired policeman, holding something that was tucked on his waist.
“Kay nag-singgit inaway si Kap Ventura, ti nagpatawag kami pulis,” Coo claimed.
She surmised that Ventura wanted to disrupt the caucus since the latter is a known supporter of the Gonzalezes.
Coo claimed hat they asked for permit from the barangay chair but he did not allow a caucus to be held in their village.
“Ang plano lang namon kay indi siya magpasugot, i-expose lang namon sa syudad sang Iloilo nga ang ginahimo sang mga kapitanes ni Raul Gonzalez, ginatudlu-an niya ang iya mga kapitanes nga magpang-ipit sa tanan nga barangay,” she stressed.
But according to Ventura , he did not prevent the holding of the caucus.
Instead, he claimed that he just wanted to pre-empt a possible conflict had caucuses from the two political camps will be held the same time.
Meanwhile, former Chief Presidential Legal Adviser Raul Gonzalez, Sr., who is running for mayor, claimed that he has nothing to do with the incident.
“As a matter of fact, we held several caucuses that Treñas tried to compete by also doing his own caucus,” he claimed.
