PPCRV intensifies voters’ education
Volunteers of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) have intensified their voters’ education campaign as the May 10 local and national elections near.
Rev. Tomas Elias B. Guidoriagao, Jr. —— said they have deployed seminarians all over the region to conduct education drive relative to automated elections.
They have prioritized remote places that cannot be easily reached by information regarding the new voting system.
In some parishes like in Sara and San Dionisio towns in Iloilo voters’ education had been incorporated during the conduct of holy mass.
“We can only pray for a good and honest election,” said Rev. Guidoriagao, Jr.
A Clean, Honest, Accurate, Meaningful and Peaceful (CHAMP) elections without fear or favor, in a non-partisan manner and in the service of God and country has been the battle cry of the PPCRV volunteers.
PPCRV is the official accredited ‘citizen arm’ of the Commission on Election (Comelec). Together with the Philippine National Police it has been tasked to watch the conduct of the election on May 10, 2010. “We can only do so much, but we cannot do everything,” said Rev. Guidoriagao, Jr.
Among the functions of the PPCRV volunteer are: Speakers Bureau which concentrates on the Voters’ Education, the SWOT (Special Witnesses of Truth) Roving Team who will check irregularities on polling precincts on the day of the election, and setting up of VAD (Voters’ Assistance Desk).
PPCRV has more than a thousand volunteers in Iloilo and Guimaras provinces.
