Armed men fire guns in front of Capiz guv’s house
ROXAS CITY – Some six to seven armed men fired their guns near the house of Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr. last Tuesday night in Poblacion, Dumarao, Capiz.
Poblacion Bgry. Captain Eduardo Lademora, who happened to be Tanco’s brother-in-law, said that witnesses reported that armed men fired their guns some 12 meters away in front of the governor’s house.
Lademora also said that he also heard gunfires believed to be coming from automatic rifles.
According to him, witnesses also said that the armed men were having a drinking spree before incident.
On the other hand, elements of Dumarao PNP station confirmed the explosions however, there were no recovery of empty shells at the scene of incident.
Police said that no one was hurt during the gun fires and there was also no damage on the house of Tanco as witnesses said that the suspects aimed their guns upwards.
Police also said that they immediately responded at the scene of incident and conducted a check point but the suspects fled.
It was learned that during the gun fire, only Mayoralty Candidate Victor Tanco, Jr. and wife Sugar and their helpers wer inside the house. The younger Tanco is facing his 2nd cousin incumbent Mayor Leslie Warren “Beboy” Benjamen.
The Dumarao police has yet to determine whether or not the explosions was politically motivated considering that the Tancos are running for public offices.
