NPA disrupts LP caucus in Mambusao
ROXAS CITY – Liberal Party (LP) congressional bet in 2nd district of Capiz has confirmed that some 30 armed men believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) disrupted the political caucus in one barangay in Mambusao, Capiz recently.
Police retired General Roberto “Bobby” Lastimoso, former PNP Chief, said in dyOW Bombo Radyo debate that an armed man came up the stage in the Barangay Hall of Cala-agus and grabbed the microphone from the emcee.
According to him, Board Member Nenita Martelino who is running for mayor in Mambusao under the ticket of LP was supposed to speak when the unidentified armed man got the microphone.
He added that he was on the away to the place when the incident happened adding that there were no police escorts during that time.
Earlier, Capiz Provincial Police Office revealed that armed men declared that they would not allow LP local candidates to conduct the caucus due to the lack of permit to campaign (PTC) — a safe conduct pass for candidates to campaign in rebel-infested areas.
The incident happened Thursday last week, April 22, where the armed men told the LP local candidates that they first have to pay P140,000 in revolutionary taxes.
No one was hurt as candidates and residents who attended the caucus were allowed to leave by the rebels.
