Fence sitters join Jamora bandwagon
The bandwagon phenomenon is now working double-time in favor of Larry Jamora as more and more groups continue to swell the Team Pagbag-o camp. The politically neutral, the fence-sitters, or the so-called undecided in pulse surveys are now openly supporting Larry Jamora’s bid to become the next mayor of Iloilo City .
This development has become apparent in recent days as many little known organizations are now listing up with Jamora whose campaign has emerged at the forefront of the current political exercise. With the elections only a few more days away, there is a rush among various groups, or even plain individuals, to identify themselves with Jamora’s winning camp.
The bandwagon effect materialized for Jamora as early as mid-April or halfway into the campaign period as Jamora’s camp was boosted by the exodus of mid-level leaders and supporters of the Mabilog campaign as well as Punong Barangays from the Treñas camp. These defectors were encouraged largely by the overwhelming support Jamora is getting from the various sectors of the community, particularly the business, religious, urban poor, and transport groups. They were all attracted to the Jamora campaign due to his character and competence as well as his clear vision for the city which was lacking in the other camps.
Moreover, the black propaganda campaign now being resorted to by the Mabilog camp has largely backfired because of the wild and unfounded accusations they continue to make in an attempt to destroy Jamora’s person.
The undecided were also quite impressed by the large numbers and positive energy being generated by the Jamora campaign rallies and sorties in the various districts in contrast to the sparse and unruly crowd that Mabilog is getting.
Even the youth sector, Mabilog’s so-called strength, has shifted support for Jamora. Youth volunteers for Jamora have electrified the city electorate with unique, non-traditional ways of campaigning that elevating the democratic process into a more inspiring level.
The latest influx of supporters from the neutral corners can easily be called the icing to Jamora’s campaign cake.
