Fire incidents recorded days before polls
Two days before May 10, 2010 elections, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here in Western Visayas has recorded four fire incidents that include the burning of five precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines.
Said five PCOS machines were burned when fire occurred at the Home Economics building of Caduldulan Elementary School located Brgy. Caduldulan in Miag-ao, Iloilo Saturday afternoon.
Senior Superintendent Sofia Mendoza, BFP regional director, disclosed that the fire occurred at about 3:25p.m. of May 8 at the said school, considered as a mountainous area of the municipality of Miag-ao.
Mendoza, however, could not ascertain the estimated cost of damages and cause of fire and said her men are still in the area conducting an investigation.
Further, a day before elections on May 9, three fire incidents occurred including that in the municipality of Zarraga, Batad and Alimodian in Iloilo.
One unit residential house owned by Ms. Magdalena dela Cruz was burned at the Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPSC) compound in Batad, Iloilo, 1:45 a.m. with P300,000 estimated cost of damages.
Minutes later at 2:25 a.m., another one unit residential house owned by Dexter Tabano was burned at Brgy Dawis Sur, Zarraga with P50,000.00 more or less estimated costs of damages.
Also burned on Sunday were 10 residential houses in Brgy Tarug, Alimodian with P1 million more or less estimated costs of damages.
Fortunately, Mendoza said there is no casualty or injury recorded in the said fire incidents and said they are still conducting investigations as to the cause of these incidents.
