Iloilo province in need of more hospital beds
With more than a thousand patients daily, Iloilo province’s hospitals have only 510 hospital beds.
It was pegged that the present ratio is one bed for every 3,000 patients.
Records from the Iloilo Provincial Hospital Operations and Management Office (HOMS) revealed that hundreds of hospital beds are needed to cater to the needs of hospital clienteles in the province.
Presently, the Iloilo Provincial government supervises a provincial hospital, six district hospitals, and four municipal hospitals.
The Iloilo Provincial Hospital at Brgy. Rumbang, Pototan, Iloilo, some 34 kilometers from Iloilo City, has around 100 hospital beds.
Meanwhile, the six district hospitals – Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian, Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital in Cabatuan town, Dumangas District Hosppital in Dumangas, Rep. Pedro G. Trono, Memorial Hospital (RPGTMH) in Guimbal, Dr. Ricardo Y. Ladrido Memorial District Hospital in Lambunao, and Sara District Hospital in Sara have 50 beds for their patients.
On the other hand, municipal hospitals like Jesus M. Colmenares Hospital in Balasan, Federico Ramon Tirador Hospital in Janiuay, Dr. Ricardo S. Provido Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Calinog, and Don Valerio Palmares in the component city of Passi have 25 beds each.
Meanwhile, Barotac Viejo District Hospital in Barotac Viejo has allotted 10 beds for its patients.
Even earlier, Iloilo Governor Niel Tupas, Sr. pushed for the economic enterprise of district hospitals to improve health services and laboratory equipment.
It was gathered that
Western Visayas is the only region whose provincial hospital relies wholly on the provincial government for their annual budget, including salary and laboratory equipment.
Under economic enterprise, hospitals would no longer depend on the annual budget.
The income they produce will be used to build more rooms, facilities, and laboratories. They will also be able to buy more laboratory equipment, drugs for the pharmacy, and hospital beds.
